A SERVICE FOR THE LORD'S DAY
4th Sunday in Lent March 14, 2010
WE ASSEMBLE IN GOD'S NAME
Prelude:
Greetings, Passing of the Peace of Christ, Announcements:
Introit:
*Call to Worship: Lay Leader
Leader: We depend on the Lord alone to lead us.
People: Only He can help us, protecting us like a shield.
Leader: In Him our hearts rejoice, for we are trusting in his holy name.
People: Let your unfailing love surround us, O Lord.
All: For our hope is in you alone. (Psalm 33: 20-22)
*Hymn: "Be Thou My Vision" No. 339
*Call to Confession: Lay Leader
Leader: God does not hide from us, and always hears our cry for help. Confident of God’s presence, let us confess our sins individually and together.
*Prayer of Confession: (unison) Lay Leader
During this time of Lent, O Lord, we are asked to walk with Jesus on his way to Jerusalem and the cross. We had rather take a easier route, or just leap-frog to the day of resurrection that we dimly see in the future. Help us not to stray from the true path as we listen again to His teachings, make life changing decisions toward spiritual enrichment, handle our own sorrows and struggles with Divine grace, and give true thanks for His Presence in all circumstances of life. Forgive our straying ways, and, please keep us close to you all the day long. Amen
*Silent Confession:
*Assurance of Pardon: Lay Leader
Leader: The good news is this: "In Jesus Christ our sins are forgiven. They are removed as far as East is from West" Thanks be to God for His steadfast love and mercy. Amen .
*Gloria Patri: "Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world
without end. Amen."
WE PROCLAIM GOD’S WORD
Time with Children: The Making of a Children's Prayer Dr. Lawrence and Children
Prayer of Illumination: (unison) Lay Leader
God of Heaven and Earth, your word is a lamp that gives us light on the pathways we tread. Your precepts keep us from stumbling when the path gets dark. Give us ears to hear and eyes to see the insight you have for today from your written and spoken Word. Amen

Lord's Prayer: (unison)
“Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but del iver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.”
Offertory:
*Doxology: Praise God from whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heav’nly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen
*Affirmation of Faith: (unison)
We
believe in God, who lights the dawn to chase away the darkness; who rolls away
each stone of doubt; who surprises us with incredible gifts of family and friends,
silence and laughter; who raises us from sadness and despair to the possibilities
of blessing and joy.
We believe in Jesus, friend of the poor and searcher for the lost, who comes
to us in our grief and longing, calls us by name and sends us on the paths of
peace to speak of an awesome love that is not overcome by death.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the hidden partner, the gentle messenger of God,
who fills our every breath with blessing; who guides us in the dark, beckons
us to do good, speaks to us in dream and image, and watches over us with tender
compassion.
We believe in the church, an instrument of God in this present moment, striving
for justice, celebrating in joy, clawing at despair, living in hope, praying
for healing and forever proclaiming Good News of God's persistent and redeeming
love.
*Hymn: "O Love That Wilt Not Let Me Go" No. 384
WE GO IN GOD'S NAME
*The Charge and Benediction:
*Congregational Response: "Let the Peace of Christ Rule in Your Heart"
Let the peace of Christ rule in your heart; Let the peace of Christ rule in your heart, and whatever you do, in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord. Giving thanks, giving thanks to God through Christ the Lord; giving thanks, giving thanks to God through Christ the Lord.
