A SERVICE FOR THE LORD'S DAY
14th Sunday in Ordinary Time July 6, 2008
WE ASSEMBLE IN GOD'S NAME
Prelude:
Greetings, Passing of the Peace of Christ, Announcements:
Introit:
*Call to Worship:
Pastor:
Who are we who gather this summer Sunday?
People: We are those besieged by the messages and values
of the community, but who choose to live instead by God’s truth.
Pastor: Why do we come here?
People: We come to worship God, the source of life, to hear
again the words of Jesus, to discern his way and find grace to walk it.
Pastor: How are we enabled?
People: We attend to Christ’s teaching, contemplate the
symbols of the gospel story, and pray to be strengthened by the Holy Spirit
for faithful life
and witness in Christ’s name.
*Hymn: “God of the Ages, Whose Almighty Hand” No. 262
*The Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag
*The Pledge of Allegiance to the Christian Flag
I pledge allegiance to the Christian flag, and to the Savior for which it stands, one brotherhood uniting all mankind in service and love.
*Prayer of Confession: (unison)
Forgive us, Lord, if we have misused, destroyed, or squandered any part of your creation: The flowing streams, the life-giving air, the lofty mountains, the fertile soil, the beautiful hills, the abundance of wildlife. Forgive us also if we have misused or dishonored any part of your human creation, failing to honor your divine image. We need a new appreciation of your generous creative power, a new gratitude for your providential care, and a new sense of the sacredness of all things and all people; through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
*Hymn: (see insert) “Let There Be Peace on Earth”
*Assurance of Pardon: (unison)
We have received God’s word of assurance through the prophet Isaiah who declared that when we confess our sin, God will abundantly pardon. This truth has become reality for us in Jesus. We can trust it, and begin again to live in accord with God’s will and purpose.

whose gift is hope, inspires and empowers our prophetic witness now and always, Amen.
